Georges Jouve

Georges Jouve (1910-1964) collaborated with the celebrated designer Jacques Adnet who at the head of Compagnie des Arts Francaise championed the best of artists and craftsmen. Jouve was a virtuoso ceramicist showing considerable originality, utilising metallic black glazes, white and colour, and drawing on the forms of nature to produce his spectacular pieces. He worked for only twenty years and was regarded as the best French ceramicist of his day, showing technical mastery unsurpassed by any of his compatriots. His work was constantly in demand and he was involved in all the Fairs and major Exhibitions of French Art abroad.
