Francois Arnal (1924-) started painting in 1947 in Paris and became a member of the Art Movements, Abstraction, Lyric and Art Informel, exhibiting regularly at Gallery Maeght. From 1957-1975 he launched the revolutionary Atelier A a collective of artists and designers whose mission was to free creativity and to invite celebrated up and coming artists to design objects and furniture. Although embraced by the Art and Media affecianados, it was commercially unviable closing in 1975. It was to prove the inspiration of later Italian collaborations such as,Alchimia ans Memphis.
